Lava Spider came to replace Fire Beetle from the Beta pack. Let's see how successful he is.

Lava Spider

Overview

Lava Spider is a cheap Ranged card with good stats from the 1st level on: 1 ranged damage, 2 speed, 4 health for 3 mana and top it with Snipe. On level 4 it gets useful when the damage is increase to 2, on level 6 we get the snare ability, so flying creatures loose their ability and on level 10 poison is added to the mix (now this card is definitely worth something), though his damage does not increase, and even on level 10 he does have only 6 health, so an easy target to pick.

So is this really a good card? I have unfortunately difficulties putting this card to use in the novice and bronze matches, as there are very few ranged or magic cards which would have low health. Unfortunately the fire team does not support ranged attackers much. With the current summoners giving only 1 speed or health. The meta is on enhancing survival or attack in most of the cases (Tara with Melee and a little health Kelya with shield and speed, Obisidian with Magic and General Sloan with +1 ranged). This card would be great with Sloan.

There is one legendary fire summoner waiting to be able to use this card. Yodin Zaku. Lava Spider usually fires somewhere in the middle of the enemy lines with it's Snipe. Yodin Zaku adds an additional Ranged damage, so damaging also characters with shield + Splash damage to the mix. Let's compare this to shooting deadly fireballs in the middle of the enemy lines from that point on.

Now lets check out a fight.
Ruleset:

• 20 Mana
• Fire, Life and Death allowed
• Poison ruleset

I won't lie, this fight is not really about Lava Spider, though it had an important role in the fight protecting Scavo Chemist.
The main strategy guide from this fight is the usage of the Cleanse ability. In case you have the fire or water splinter available in poison fight, then put a tank in the first or second position (second can be useful as well) and a scavo chemist in a safe spot. Please be cautious with low mana fights, as a magic team can kill of a most of the heavy attack tanks in the first round.
After the cleanse is applied to the first creature in your attack line, he will get immunity against the effects of poison and you can watch how the enemy team slowly fades away.
