Is it possible to earn on Splinterlands without spending?

There are many posts out that talks about how to earn on Splinterlands. However, most posts (that I can find anyway) are dated and based on old rules. Can you still earn on Splinterlands if you are not willing to spend money (or crypto) on it?

The short answer is no, because you need to pay $10 for the Summoner's Spellbook in order to start earning. But if you look past this initial investment of $10, can you still earn without further investment in the game?

So, let's take a look at the 3 main ways that we can earn on Splinterlands.

(1) Winning battles
Winning battles will earn you some Dark Energy Crystal (DEC) tokens for every win. However, the rules have changed such that you can only start earning DEC when you get to the Bronze II tier. That requires a minimum of 1000 Power, which means you need to own a fair number of cards to qualify. It's not impossible as you can earn cards from doing the Daily Quests.

(2) Daily Quests
Completing the daily quests will earn you reward chests.

However, as you can see from the table below, Bronze league doesn't give out any DEC tokens as rewards. Instead, you are most likely to earn some Credits or Potions, with a small chance to earn Cards. It's only until Silver league that you can start earning DEC token from chest rewards.

(3) End of Season Rewards
The third way to earn within the game to through the end of season rewards. The table below shows how many chest you'll earn based on the tier you are in, up to Silver III. Again, the drop probability follows that of the daily quest.

So is it still possible to earn with just the initial $10 investment?
Well, it is still possible to get Cards from the Daily Quests and End of Season rewards, but it will take a while before you get to Bronze II to even start earning. So while the answer is yes, it will take you a lot of time and effort. And I think that you'll need to minimally need to hit Silver III to start earning decently and that requires a fair bit of investment (be it time or money).

It may be better to earn a little off the game, like write a post for the weekly Social Media Challenge and the weekly Battle Challenge. You can then use the earnings from these posts to buy the cards to advance the tiers faster.

Final Note
As a final note, cards have value and can also grow in value. So, you can consider them as a longer term investment as well!
