BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Weekly Challenge! Healed Out
Hi everyone! It's time for the weekly Battle Mage Secrets challenge and the challenge this week is the Healed Out Ruleset.
About the Ruleset

Healed Out
The Healed Out ruleset states that "All Healing abilities are removed from Monsters and Summoners". This means just that - No heals whatsoever during the battles. I generally like using Monsters with the Heal/Triage ability, so this is one ruleset I dislike.
Battle Ruleset(s)
Details of my battle with this ruleset is as follows.

Stampede: The Trample ability can trigger multiple times per attack if the trampled Monster is killed
Only the Water, Earth, Life, Death and Dragon Splinters can be used
Mana Cap: 41
Format: Modern
Cards & Line Up
Summoner

Summoner: Obsidian - This increases the Magic attack of all my Monsters by 1.

Position | Name | Description |
---|---|---|
1 | Unicorn Mustang | It's my usual main tank for the Earth Splinter, as it has high health, a decent attack and the Void ability to take reduced magic damage. |
2 | Mycelic Slipspawn | It has the Taunt ability and is used to take the initial damage, and hopefully deal some damage before it gets finished off. |
3 | Regal Peryton | It is a fast card, and at level 3 deals a decent amount of magic damage. It has the Flying ability which helps dodge some physical attacks too. |
4 | Queen Mycelia | It has the Protect ability, which gives 2 shields to all my monsters, and is a key card for this strategy. |
5 | Magi of Chaos | It's one of my monsters with higher magic damage. It's fairly slow so I placed it further behind |
6 | Madcap Magus | I placed this at the last slot as it has the Life Leech ability, which builds up health as it damages and will hopefully last longer against backline attacks. |
Strategy
The combination of rulesets here meant:
- No heals - Argh!
- Monsters with the Trample ability can be very powerful, if it manages to take out your monsters
My strategy here was to have higher health monsters in the front positions, so that it's less likely to be taken out by the monster with the Trample ability and making it less effective. So the rest of my deck uses mainly magic monsters, so that I can take out the Trample Monster (usually first card) fast. Queen Mycelia is quite important here as its shields allow my monsters to take an additional one or two physical attacks. Death Splinters cannot in this ruleset too, so the use of the Earth splinter is a fairly safe bet too.
The opponent used a main tank with the Trample ability, and my Unicorn Mustang-Mycelic Slipspawn combination neutralised it pretty much, with my mainly magic deck taking it out fast. I was also fairly lucky that the opponents attacks were not concentrated on a single monster. It ended up a very close fight which went down to the last two cards.
Thoughts on the Healed Out Ruleset
My strategies tend to favour the use of monsters with heals, so getting the Healed Out really sucks. It also forces me to think a little harder on the strategy and monsters to be used. For the Healed Out ruleset, a good strategy is to use monsters with high health and abilities like Shield or Void which reduces the damage taken or abilities like Thorns, Return Fire and Magic Reflect that can reflect some damage to the opponent.
