South Park takes a swing at NFTs
First of all, let me take you on a trip down memory lane. Remember back in 2010 when BTC was getting slowly more known among people?
This piece from 2010 speaks of what BTC could offer in a positive way, but the reality is that everyone was speaking ill of Bitcoin - some still are, God bless their poor souls.
And now we are seeing the same with NFTs.
I'm not a huge NFT believer. I think that we are still yet to see NFTs2.0 and that will be the bomb, but right now, every mention of NFTs is positive for the Cryptoverse in general. Any publicity is good publicity, or something along those lines, sorry I'm not a well versed grandma and I don't know my sayings that good, but you get the point.
Back then, The FBI took a swing at BTC, some people called it the Internet currency that’s one part science fiction, one part libertarian wet dream, it was called - in several occasions just some kind of funny money, Securities writers spoke a lot about how bictoin is just the medium to scam people, when BTC was worth 10 euros, many websites started to take a swing at BTC with arguments like how do you arbitrarily assign value to something that is purely digital?.
All of these links are from 2010, if you're curious, none of them are a long read, click on them and see for yourself how was BTC perceived. Even high tech forums [called it a Ponzi scheme](Bitcoins, a Crypto-Geek Ponzi Scheme) (which misses out the whole point of FIAT btw). Economic and Finance forums even took a jab at how BTC [lacks security or is stoppable](What methods could a government use to shutdown Bitcoin?), and some others just [point as BTC as not the future, but the beginning of the future](What methods could a government use to shutdown Bitcoin?).
But hey, what's that got to do with anything NFT related?
Everyone knows that when something goes mainstream and it is prone to critics, South Park will take a jab at the topic, no matter if you are Paris Hilton being a whore, a male-to-female trans athlete that crushes everyone other woman, or if you are a Zimbabwean retarded kid. If you are mainstream or are becoming popular and South Park can cash in from your fame, you will be featured. It's worth noting that I don't think there is as much agenda in what South Park features (unlike The Simpsons for example).
But this is also a popularity test. If you are featured in South Park, you've made it, or you are at least going to make it into the minds of the population, positively or negatively? Who cares, you've made it.
And now, NFTs were featured on South Park
Yesterday's episode talks about NFTs. But don't take my word for it, watch it.
Or if you prefer reading about it, I'll brief it right below - maybe you are like me. I hate watching ten minute videos when I can just read the same information in one minute.
Basically, the protagonists are adult now, and Butters is secluded in a mental institution. Butters now goes by another name (the sort of Craig Wright-ish) and is an NFT shiller that - for his own good - is not allowed to keep shilling NFTs. It is just a 5 minute sequence with just a brief mention of NFTs, and then they move on to Covid origins in a very SouthParkish way.
Right after some yada yada, we get another scene with NFTs as the protagonist (and you should really watch this one, I'm not going to describe it so you have to watch it, it's only two minutes long):
That's it, that's all NFTs need to know they are on the right path - which means, we also are.
What does this mean for NFTs?
Yeah, we get it, NFTs and Crypto are for mad men who believe in internet money and get rich quick schemes and they are only here to kidnap your Peruvian cousin and get ransom money in memecoins.
But what does this really mean for NFTs?
The fact that they punching NFTs so much and they are trying to change the narrative of how investing in Crypto and NFTs is a huge madman journey, and how strong they are trying to convince the average Joe that they should keep their wage in Fiat instead of shorting Fiat and Longing crypto, means that the fear is real.
First they used the government media to tell you BTC was the bad guy. Then they used mainstream media to put BTC down. When that didn't work, they used independent journalists and media to speak ill of Crypto. We ignored them, so then they used actors and famous people to convince us to not invest in the fraud internet money.
Now that everything they have tried has failed, and we are still going 100% full force shorting FIAT, they recourse to our favorite cartoons - that are supposed to be anti-establishment.
And they don't realize that the more they try to stop it
The more adoption it will get.
It's not a matter of IF but a matter of WHEN. I wonder when is the general population going to realize the can jump ship of the establishment and the elite's agenda?
All I know is, trashing NFTs in such a popular TV show might seem like the right move for them, but if you ask me, I'd say we are on the right track.

It is quite curious to see how industries are taking advantage of NFTs, I don't know if in the end this is a good or bad thing, but it is certainly a new world that is starting to come to life.
I'm a hardcore NFT collector, and I found the episode hilarious. The fact that we got NFTs and Bitcoin on South Park in the past 2 episodes is fuckin cool. Regardless of how they're portraying them, people are learning about them. That's really all that matters.
