What Every Summoner Must Become In The Higher Leagues | Splinterlands X Social Media Challenge

Today, I will share a battle that highlights the importance of having diverse monster units in the higher leagues, where the players are known to have 2 to 3 summoners that they main. I am no different. The better tactician won, of course.

Without further ado, let's begin!

Battle Conditions

The mana cap is 55 and there are 5 summoners to choose from: Fire, Water, Nature, and Death.

Battle Rules:-

  • Going the distance: You can only summon units with ranged attacks.
  • Fog of War: Units lose sneak, snipe, and opportunity abilities.
  • Ferocity: All units deal double damage if the target unit has taunt.

Keeping the mana cap, available summoners, and battle rules in mind, I chose to use the summoner that was of high level and would give me equally high-level units to work with. It was the death summoner, providing me high-level units for cheap.

Let's start the deck deconstrucion from my side:

Summoner: Thaddius Brood(Ability: Decrease in HP and Magic damage by 1 for all enemy units)(Level 5)

Tank: Venari Marksrat(Ability: Martyr).

Ranged Attackers: Queen of Crows(Ability: Close Range), Ravenhood Warden(Ability: Protect), Zyriel(Ability: Weapons Training, Life Leech, Divine Shield), Lira the Dark(Ability: Snare), Dhampir Stalker(Ability: Aim True, Deathblow).

My strategy was to have my true tank, Queen, and get her to have the martyr effect. Then, I had all the other units to attack from the front. To further damage receiving strength, I had Raven build a shield around each of the units. Lastly, I used Stalker in the back to ensure a guaranteed damage of 4 and do double the damage if their unit had taunt or if he had 1 last unit. That way, I ensured maximum durabilty while doing the utmost damage.

My overall damage per round is 15 and 2 HP increase if Zyriel's attack connects with a potential increase to 19 if deathblow is triggered.

Now for the opposition's turn:

Summoner: Fernheart(Ability: Increase in HP for all ally units and grants the ability of Close Ranged to all ally units)(Level 2 Gold Foil)

Tank: Drybone Raider(Ability: Double Strike).

Ranged Attackers: Uloth Dhampir(Ability: Stun), Swell Spore Beast(Ability: Aim True), Gobsom Bomber(Ability: Recharge, Camouflage), Goblin Tower(Ability: Blast), Ava The Undaunted(Ability: Weapon Training).

His strategy was to rack up all the high damage from the front while keeping the weak ones in the back. All of his units would pull off a damage equal or greater than 3. He used an attacker that had the potential to stun my tank and possibly reduce my damage. He had an attacker that guaranted a damge of 3 per round, an attacker that would do 6 damage every even numbered round, lastly, one that would do a blast damage.

His overall damage per round is 18 every odd numbered round and 24 every even numbered round.

Major Events

Round 1

In the second third of the round, his tank fell thanks to my Zyriel making it a 5 v 5.

In that very round, I ensured the martyr effect on my Queen finally come to.


Round 2

At the first half of the round, his second tank fell making it a 4 v 5 with me at an advantage.

At the end of the round, Queen fell which dealt a huge blow to my shielding and thus it turned into a 4 v 3.

At the start of the round, Spore Beast fell thanks to my Lira making it a 3 v 3.

After half the round passed, his Bomber fell while the rest of my units were up and about.

After half the round passed, my Raven fell leaving the rest of my units unguarded while his Goblin tower was at it's final HP.

At the end of the round, his Tower fell while my Zyriel is going strong with the increased HP.

At the end of the round, his Ava fell as the deathblow was struck by Dhampir

Results

The one crucial mistake he made was that even though he ensured a higher damage than me; all his units had a lower speed than mine. That made my units get their attacks faster and ensure a higher damage in the first few turns which took out his units one by one faster than he could get his units to attack mine. This little twist in strategy won me a game where my overall damage and HP was slighly lower than mmy opposition's.
