Hello, splinter-warriors. I hope you all are doing well.

Today, I want to share a battle with you fellas that glorifies the need for diverse and strong monsters that are cheaper than you think. And the fact that the better strategist won is a result of that.

Without further ado, let's begin!

Battle Conditions

Capture.PNG

The mana cap is 27. There are 2 summoners available: Life and Death.

Battle Rules:-

  • Briar Patch: All units have Thorns ability.
  • Lost Magic: Summoning units with magic powers is barred.

Keeping the mid-ranged mana cap, the available summoners, and battle rules in mind I chose to have the summoner that would give me high-level monsters with cheap mana and would further decrease the enemy units' stats by its ability. It is the death summoner.

Let's start the deck deconstruction from my side:

Summoner: Thaddius Brood(Ability: Decrease in HP and Magic damage by 1 for all enemy units)(Level 5)

Tank: Cursed Windeku(Ability: Thorns, Heal).

Melee Attackers: Arachne Thug(Ability: Reach, Trample), Uraeus(Ability: Sneak, Poison), Silent Sha-vi(Ability: Sneak, Cripple).

Non-attacker: Chaos Agent(Ability: Dodge).

Ranged Attacker: Ravenhood Warden(Ability: Shatter).

My strategy was to break his deck from the front and the back. Keeping one of the battle rules* in mind, I had to have a tank that would self-heal and cause more damage than damage taken and have it supported by another high-damaging melee attacker behind it. I used Warden to break any and every shield his tank may have to get its original HP reduced as soon as possible. I used two sneak attackers to attack any ranged attackers he might've used in the back of his deck at the cost of their own lives; a gamble I was happy to pay for if he didn't use any. Lastly, Chaos Agent was nothing but a punching bag I wanted to keep in front of Warden so that the melee attack or other attack would hit it and not Warden.

My overall damage per round is 16 including poison damage with 3 healing.

Now for the opposition's turn.

Summoner: General Sloan(Ability: Increase in Ranged Attacker damage by 1 for all ally units)(Level 2 Gold Foil*)

Tank: Gargoya Scrapper(Ability: Void).

Blocked Melee Attackers: Chaos Knight(Ability: Shield), Blinding Reflector(No Ability).

Ranged Attackers: Pelacor Arbalest(Ability: Double Strike), Xenith Archer(No Abillity), Portal Spinner(Ability: Snipe*).

He used a dummy tank at the beginning to allow his opponent to suffer thorn damage. Afterward, 2 of his blocked attackers would come up and would then cause additional thorn damage while his 3 ranged attacker units would try and fry my units from the front while one of his raged attackers would snipe my other units. That way, he ensured to attack me purely from the front.

His overall damage is 14 in the first round, 16 from the second round onwards until his Chaos Knight falls and it comes back to 14 for another few rounds.

Major Events

Round 1

Screenshot (542).png

The first monster to fall in the first third of the round was unsurprisingly his tank making it a 5 v 6.

Screenshot (543).png

in the second third of the round, his ranged attacker at the back fell making it a 4 v 6 in my favour.

Screenshot (545).png

In the final third of the game, my tank fell making it a 4 v 5 as my healing factor and a good chunk of my damage fell off.

Round 2

Screenshot (546).png

The first unit to fall was his ranged attacker in the back at the first turn, in the first half of the round.

Screenshot (547).png

The second monster to fall was my secondary tank, making it a 2 v 4 that was still in my favour. His overall damage was slightly lower than mine.

Screenshot (548).png

In the second half of the round, his prized ranged attacker fell with a bang and so his melee attacker was at the mercy of my attackers.

Screenshot (549).png

At the end of the round, my Chaos Agent fell leaving his 2 sneak attackers and 1 ranged attacker.

Round 3

Screenshot (550).png

At the start of the round, his sole melee attacker fell with 3 of my units standing.

Results

Unfortunately for him, the way I structured my deck, it was the perfect counter for his one and so 3 of my units survived till the end. However, I thought that most of my ints would live through but somehow his ranged attackers made sure a few of my strong ones fell. Moreover, he had a gold foil summoner. That shows he prioritized getting exclusive units instead of a diverse arsenal consisting of a plethora of attacking possibilities with all the different abilities of the monsters available. This is where we should prioritize quantity over quality. I rented a few units here for an extremely cheap rate, making this a cost-effective and strong deck.
