Hello, splinter-warriors of Hive. I hope you all are doing well.

A Dark Summoner in a 1 v 1 battle with an ancient beast, set in a dystopian future with a post-apocalyptic world.png

Today, I will share a battle that deserves to be in the "Battle of the Day" logbook—if there is one in this club. This battle was in the Gold II Modern Leagues, and my opposition missed its mark by a long shot.

Without further ado, let's begin!

Battle Conditions

The mana cap is 32 and all the summoners are on the table.

Battle Rules:-

  • Aim True: All units gain true strike.
  • Beefcakes: Summon units that have 5 HP or higher.
  • Feocity: All units deal double damage to the target if it has taunt.

Keeping the mana cap, available summoners, and battle rules in mind, I chose the summoner that gives me a clear edge over my opposition's pick. This summoner is none other than the death summoner, which has high-level units for low mana cost, perfect for a high damage-dealing deck.

Let's start the deck deconstruction with my side:

Summoner: Thaddius Brood(Ability: Decrease in HP and Magic damage by 1 for all enemy monsters).

Tank: Cursed Windeku(Ability: Thorns, Heal).

Melee Attacker: Arachne Thug(Ability: Reach, Trample).

Ranged Attacker: Dhampir Stalker(Ability: Aim True, Deathblow).

Magic Attacker: Djinn Muirat(Ability: Void Armour, Knockout, Giant Killer).

My strategy was to inflict high damage from the front and use a melee attacker just behind a tank that has the thorns ability to act as a support. I used a ranged attacker whose damage is assured, and on the off-chance that the enemy unit has taunt, it would be a 1-hit strikeout. Lastly, I used a magic attacker as a deterrent who would do double damage for a high mana tank/attacker.

The overall damage per round is 14 with a healing of 3. On the chance that the opposition has taunt, my damage per round would increase to 20.

Now for the opposition:

Tank: Venari Knifer(Ability: Thorns).

Magic Attackers: Mycelic Splispawn(Ability: Taunt),
                 Regal Peryton(Ability: Flying),
                 Goblic Psychic(Ability: Tank-heal).

His strategy was to have the incoming damage directed to 2 units in the deck while his only healer would heal up the tank only. That way, he would make sure that his tank would continue to inflict thorns damage on top of the usual damage, while his magic attackers would have a non-stop barrage of attacks from the front.

His overall damage per round is 14 per round.

Major Events

Round 1

Screenshot (696).png

The first unit to fall in the first half of the round was his tank, thanks to my supporting melee attacker, which made a 3 v 4.

In the second half of the round, his second tank fell thanks to my ranged attacker.

At the end of the round, his pegasus fell thanks to my Djinn, making it a 1 v 4.

Round 2

Lastly, in the middle of the round, I finally felled his healer while my tank only suffered 3 HP damage.

Results

My opponent and I had a similar strategy in the sense that we both wanted to go for a full frontal attack, had a tank with thorns ability, and had a healing component in the deck. The key difference was that he used a monster with a taunt ability, for which the damage delivered was doubled.
