Wow! After about a two-year break, I recently returned to playing Splinterlands, and the quality of the new player experience blew me away. My most memorable experience is completing the new player tutorial campaign. It does a fantastic job teaching new players how to understand the game's basic mechanics. And even better than that, it allows new players to own their rewards even before investing in the game.

I can't understate how radical this idea is. There are a lot of blockchain-based games out there, but many of them require a significant initial investment to get started or earn any kind of rewards. But this is why Splinterlands is so different. The new player campaign doesn't make new players feel pressured to make a massive intestment just to try out the game. Instead, the new player campaign is like a benevolent coach who guides players through learning a new game and shares some of their equipment to help them get started.

The Campaign is Well-Designed

Just as importantly, the new player campaign is very well-designed and isn't something that is just hastily slapped together. A lot of time and effort went into creating this. There are 17 lessons (including the awesome prologue animations), and the tutorials have nice written descriptions explaining the lesson that will be covered in that specific chapter. This amazing guide shows new and returning players (like me) that Splinterlands is dedicated to improving the gameplay experience.

Although I played Splinterlands for many years, my most memorable experience is the new player challenge. In my opinion, this is a massive step in the right direction that shows Splinterlands isn't just about investing and hoping to strike it rich by pulling a rare NFT or accumulating a lot of SPS. The team's dedication to the new player challenge puts the Play back in Play-to-Earn and makes Splinterlands a legitimate, fun, engaging game in its own right.

We Want More Campaigns!

The campaign is a fantastic addition to Splinterlands, and my hope is that the team will expand the campaigns beyond just the new player experience. I'd like to see many more campaigns with different quests, stories, and themes. Splinterlands has an amazing opportunity to use these campaigns as a way to tell the story of Splinterlands and delve into the lore of upcoming sets.
