Unboxing a 2019 Splinterlands Kickstarter Pack!!! - My Most Memorable Splinterlands Experience
When I was younger, I absolutely loved collecting physical Pokemon cards. I enjoyed holding them in my hands and reading all of the statistics. However, as I got older, I stopped playing Pokemon and started enjoying Splinterlands. As you might know, Splinterlands is a fantastic blockchain-based trading card game where your assets are represented as non-fungible tokens. On one hand, this is amazing because you can level up your collection and trade cards with anyone anywhere in the world. At the same time, there was always a piece of me that wanted something physical. I wanted to be able to hold a card in my hands and have some kind of tangible connection to the game of Splinterlands like I used to have with my Pokemon cards.
I Wanted Physical Splinterlands Cards!
Ever since I started playing Splinterlands, I hoped that someday I would be able to get some of the physical cards that were released by the team as part of their promotion. However, the prices were extremely expensive on eBay. I kept waiting, and then one day I got incredibly lucky! I found an offering on eBay, not just for a few cards, but for an entire Kickstarter pack from the Untamed era! It was perfect timing because it was also close to my birthday. So, I decided to take the plunge and create an eBay account for the sole purpose of bidding on this Kickstarter. As luck would have it, the seller accepted my offer, and I received my very own Splinterlands Kickstarter pack.
As soon as I learned that my order was accepted, I was filled with so much excitement, and the wait was absolutely unbearable. I spent almost every day looking on the internet, trying to find examples of other people opening Kickstarter packs so that I might know what to expect.
However, there weren't a lot of videos of people opening the full Kickstarter pack. I realize that these packs will only become more scarce as time goes on, so I wanted to take this time to share my most memorable Splinterlands experience with you and preserve a bit of Splinterlands history by sharing this post.
What's Inside??
So, what was in the Kickstarter pack? When I opened the Kickstarter pack, I found there were a ton of goodies inside. I received:
-An encyclopedia about the the lore about Splinterlands.
-Three different decks of cards.
-One set of stickers for each of the different elements + a Splinterlands logo sticker
-T-shirt
-Sealed promo card for an in-game Spellbook
-Thank you note from the team
Encyclopedia of the Splinters
Of all the items in my package, I think the Encyclopedia of the Splinters is my absolute favorite. I love reading, and I love Splinterlands. So, what better thing is there than a physical book that depicts the lore of Splinterlands? One thing I found especially fascinating about the book is that it was created based on input from community members.
T-Shirt
I'll be completely honest. I love my t-shirt, but I have to admit that it is absolutely huge. It is about 4 sizes too big for me, so I'll probably just wear it around the house on those lazy days where it's okay to have some baggy clothing. That being said, I think it is super cool. On the front, it has the Splinterlands logo, and then on the back, it has a few of the original cast of Splinterlands characters.
Physical Cards
Next up in the package were three decks of physical cards. What I found absolutely fascinating is that these cards actually said Steemmonsters on the back. It's an absolutely phenomenal part of Splinterlands history before the game was even actually called Splinterlands.
Stickers...and Spellbook Code
The Splinterlands stickers were also a nice addition. The package contained a sticker for each different element, and there was also an individual sticker with the Splinterlands logo.
In addition to the stickers, I received a sealed card that contained a promo code to unlock an additional spellbook. Especially with the release of Frontier Mode, I have been playing so many Splinterlands matches, and many days I come so close to depleting my entire energy balance. So having a second account that allows me to play more matches is an absolutely fantastic benefit.
Join Me In Splinterlands
I absolutely enjoyed opening this pack. It allowed me to see how Splinterlands has changed and evolved as a game, but it also allowed me to see how much Splinterlands values community participation. For example, the Encyclopedia of the Splinters was based on input from the community. Splinterlands isn't a top-down game that is created by some megacorporation that doesn't care about their community members. Rather, Splinterlands is a unique game because community members have a say in the future of the game. It's governed by the SPS governance token and the DAO.
In fact, Splinterlands rewards players who win matches in the game with the governance token. In other words, participating in the game can help you earn more influence over the future of the game. And I think that's an absolutely fantastic concept. If you like trading card games, strategy, and want to become part of a coummenity-driven game where your voice matters, then I'd invite you to join me in Splinterlands using the following referral code.
