Ulundin Overseer and Commander Slade : A Winning Combo⚔️
Splinterlands has a lot of great cards, but you know what is better than one great card? Two great cards! Splinterlands isn't just about throwing the most powerful cards you can find onto the battlefield and hoping for victory. Instead, it's about choosing the cards that work well and synergize together. So, in today's post, I want to share one of my favorite combinations : Commander Slade and Ulundin Overseer.

What Ulundin Overseer Brings to The Table
Before discussing the combo, I'd like to break down what each card does individually, starting with Ulundin Overseer. This is an 11 mana unit that has 5 armor, 12 health, 1 speed, and the flank ability, which means that if this unit is in the first position at the start of the battle, then the unit behind it gains reach.

What Commander Slade Brings to The Table
Commander Slade is a 10 mana unit that deals 3 melee damage, has 5 armor, 8 health, 4 speed, and the Dodge Ability as well as Enfeeble.Enfeeble reduces the opponent's melee power by 1 after each time that Commander Slade lands an attack, while the Dodge ability gives Commander Slade a 25% increased chance of dodging physical attacks. Combined with its already high speed, the Dodge ability means that Commander Slade is usually able to evade several attacks per match.

The Combo
Don't get me wrong, these cards are absolutely fantastic on their own. But where they really shine is by putting them together. With Ulundin Overseer in the first position, Commander Slade can attack from relative safety from the second position. This is a huge advantage because Commander Slade normally doesn't have the reach ability, which means that if it was paired with another unit, it would be sitting in the second position doing absolutely nothing until it was its turn to move into the first position.
The Match
At this point, you might be wondering, why not just put Commander Slade in the first position? After all, it is a melee unit that's designed to be a tank, and those are typically placed in the first position. However, I want to show you an example of a recent match that I played that demonstrates why putting Commander Slade in the second position can work. In this match, you can see that there are 55 mana available, only the life and water splinters can be played, and no ranged units are allowed.

During the first round of the match. My opponent's Commander Slade went first. If I would have put my own Commander Slade in the first position, it would have immediately lost one of its melee damage. However, because Ulundin Overseer was in the first position, I was able to preserve the three melee damage on my own Commander Slade. Ulundin Overseer has no attack, so my opponent was esentially wasting its Enfeeble ability.

A Few Considerations
Although, I think the combination of Commander Slade and Ulundin Overseer is exceptionally powerful, I also want to point out that it does have a couple downsides. First off, this is an expensive combo. Commander Slade costs 10 mana, and Ulundin Overseer costs 11 mana. So, that is 21 mana right there. It's definitely not ideal for low mana matches. Another area where this combo would really struggle is in the back-to-basics rule set. The central piece of the combination is Ulundin Overseer's flank ability, which allows Commander Slade to attack from the second position. If the back-to-basic rule set eliminates that flank ability, then Commander Slade will just be sitting in the second position, doing nothing for the first little portion of the match.

I love those two togethere. And if you can get someone like soothsayer in there for healing it can take a LONG LONG time for them to take out the Overseer.
