Splinterlands is a blockchain-based trading card game that allows players to earn cryptocurrency and collect NFT trading cards from winning battles. It's a pretty cool concept, but sometimes it can feel a little bit lonely picking your lineup, submitting it to the auto battler engine, and simply waiting for the results. The good news is that Splinterlands isn't just a solitary game; Guild Brawls are a fantastic aspect of the game that brings a sense of community and teamwork from traditional gaming to the online world. In today's post, I'm going to be telling you all about my most recent Guild Brawl and why you should consider participating in this unique format.

What is A Guild? What is a Guild Brawl?

The basic idea is that your guild is your team, your squad, your crew. Every few days, you and your other guild members will prepare yourselves and head into battle against other guilds to compete for a variety of prizes, and, of course, to earn bragging rights!

Preparation Stage

Before we get ahead of ourselves and start talking about bragging rights and prizes, it's important to understand how a Guild Brawl works. As an example, I'll share the brawl I participated in last week. The first stage in a guild brawl is the preparation phase. During this phase of the battle, you select which frays you want to enter.

As a returning player, one thing that I really appreciated was that the different frays have different restrictions. As you can see, I chose a fray that had low-level caps on the units that could be used. This is a great feature that helps balance the power level and ensure that players are competing against opponents with similar power level decks.

Combat

After the preparation stage, it was time to head into combat! Last week, I entered nine different matches. As someone who primarily plays in the bronze and silver leagues. There were a number of interesting facts about these matches. The first interesting thing is that there were three different rule sets in one of my matches. This was a bit confusing for someone like me who is used to playing in bronze and silver leagues, where there is usually only one, or sometimes two, different rules. It was a bit of a challenge, but I enjoyed being able to think through the advanced strategy of a three-rule match.

One of my favorite aspects of the guild brawl was a complete surprise. I opened up to enter my team, and I was completely amazed to see that my old cards that I had used back in the day from Untamed were available. I think this is a great feature because it allows players to enjoy using the cards that they are familiar with while also ensuring that cards maintain their utility even when they rotate out of the modern format.

Of course, the most important part of guild combat is the combat itself. After submitting all of my lineups, I waited while my opponents submitted their lineups as well. One by one, the results started to trickle in, and I was able to see the results of my efforts. As you can see in the screenshot, I am NOT a guild brawl grandmaster. I won three matches and lost six, but I still had a great time.

Rewards

Although I didn't do so well in the guild brawl, I was impressed with the rewards. I received approximately 1,100 merits and about 19 staked SPS. When I play ranked matches, I typically receive less than 0.1 SPS per win. So being able to receive almost 19 SPS for only participating in 9 matches was incredible. If my math is correct, the SPS returns from my guild brawl were almost 20X higher than ranked, and that leads me to the final point.

Don't Underestimate Brawls

I overlooked guild brawls for the longest time, and I realized that that was definitely a mistake. Guild brawls serve a number of important functions within the Splinterlands game. First and foremost, they are a great way of building community and feeling like you're a part of the team. But, even if you're not interested in the social aspect of the game, guild brawls can be a very lucrative way of boosting your rewards, especially as a new player. Finally, guild brawls are a fantastic opportunity to brush the dust off those old cards and give them a new life. Overall, I think Guild Brawls are an important aspect of the game, and I'm glad that I started participating.

Speaking of jumping in and participating, I'd like to invite you to join me in Splinterlands. The team has recently made some amazing updates and included an incredible free-to-play new player campaign that allows you to try the game out before taking the plunge and buying the Summoner's Spellbook.
