Splinterlands Card Spotlight - Lenore Nevermore
There are a lot of fantastic cards in Splinterlands, but everyone has their own favorite. Some people like the really high mana tanks that can deal out a punishing amount of damage, whereas other people prefer the support units that buff the entire friendly team or debuff the opponent's team. But, sometimes, a card is more than just its stats. My personal favorite card doesn't have the best stats, but it has some amazing artwork and an incredible backstory. So, in today's post, I want to explain why Lenore Nevermore is one of my favorite cards.
Why Lenore Nevermore Is My Favorite - Good Stats

Lenore Nevermore is a 6 mana epic unit from the Death Splinter, and it has some pretty impressive stats. Even at the 1 BCX level, the card has 6 health and does 2 ranged damage. However, there is a downside. Lenore Nevermore is a pretty slow unit, which means that it's almost always going to fire last, unless we are playing in a reverse speed rule set.
Lenore Nevermore vs Peers
Although those stats might not be the most impressive in Wild or even Modern, it's important to remember that Lenore Nevermore is a Foundations card, which means that it is primarily used in the Frontier format. When we compare Lenore Nevermore to its peers in the Frontier format, we see that there are only two other units that have a ranged attack for 6 mana. Wild Horse Tamer does have one additional speed, but it doesn't have the snipe ability. Spitting Camel has less health, less attack, but it does have the true strike ability.
One of the neat things about Splinterlands is that every card has its purpose. To succeed on the battlefield, it's important to have a diverse collection of cards to fit the situation. No single card can do everything all the time. That being said, I think Lenore Nevermore stands out as the strongest card among its peers, and the market price seems to reflect that as Lenore Nevermore is going for almost three times the price of Wild Horse Tamer.
Why Lenore Nevermore Is My Favorite - Poe Reference
Although Lenore Nevermore has some impressive stats, I'm going to be completely honest. I would love this card even if it was the worst card in the game, simply because of the reference to Poe's famous poem: The Raven.

As long as I can remember, The Raven has been my favorite poem, and I love how the lore snippet for Lenore Nevermore pays homage to Poe's work with a Splinterlands-flavored adaptation of The Raven. Additionally, I think the artwork for this card is perfect. Ravens are associated with mystery and intrigue, and the artwork for this card works perfectly. It's got a bow and arrow and a dagger, which implies stealth, cunning, and swiftness. The artists did a great job matching the weaponry of this card to the desired theme. I don't think I would like the card as much if they had given it a sword or a different type of weapons that implies direct combat with an opponent.
Why Lenore Nevermore Is My Favorite - I Earned It, and It's Mine
Another reason I like this card so much is because I earned it as a reward for battling in the Frontier format. Don't get me wrong, I use the Splinterlands market all the time to buy cards for my collection, and I think purchasing cards is an awesome aspect of the game. That being said, I feel a deeper connection to a card when I earn it as part of a battle reward. Finally, this card is something that I truly own. It is represented as an NFT on the Hive blockchain, which means that I can keep it forever or I could trade it at some point in the future.

I want to emphasize this final point a little bit more. Being able to earn tradable NFT cards for playing a game that I already enjoy is an incredible experience, and it's one of the reasons why I'm so happy to play Splinterlands.
