The Fabulous Mythology of Peryton!

In Splinterlands we have a unique card called Regal Peryton. It is an earth element spell card that has the ability Flying. The character's colors are beautiful in shades of blue, lilac on most of his body, and brown tones on the delicate horns.

It is a speed 5 card, that is, very fast! As it is a magic card, it is an excellent strategy to use in a battle when the chosen deck is the earth element. But, in addition to its uses in the game, what stories revolve around the character of this card? That's what we'll find out in this post!

The first appearance of this fascinating being took place in the book ''Manual de Zoologia Fantástica'' by the Argentine writer Jorge Luís Borges, released in 1957. The Perytons are described as hybrid creatures with a deer's head, body, and legs, while their body and wings have the structure of an eagle. His colors are blue and green, and his shadow is of a man.

According to Borges, the existence of this hybrid animal was mentioned by a Moroccan rabbi in a sixteenth-century manuscript that was destroyed during the bombing of Dresden in World War II. Borges claims that the contents of the manuscript made a reference to a lost work by a Greek writer that described texts of oracles that were kept in the Library of Alexandria before it was destroyed. It's a lot of history, how you can see... But the content about the Perythons in this supposed manuscript is interesting, to say the least. Below I will quote some information that would be presented in the old paper:

• That these animals flew in flocks and were seen at high altitudes over the Pillars of Hercules (Strait of Gibraltar).

• That they are mortal enemies of humanity and although weapons do not affect them, this being cannot kill more than one man.

• The Roman soldiers who accompanied Scipio in the conquest of Carthage barely not failed, as there was a moment when a formation of perytons descended on the ships, killing and maiming many men.

• Perytons originally lived in Atlantis.

Undoubtedly, these are very interesting features that make us reflect on this impressive mythological animal. Of course, everything indicates that the history of the manuscript is nothing more than a creation of the author himself who cites it in his book “Manual de Zoologia Fantástica”. But, whether fiction or not, it encourages us to imagine a scenario in which these fantastic beings really existed and what life should be like for human beings at that time, since they were also known to have hungry for blood and human flesh.

A fabulosa mitologia do Peryton

Em Splinterlands temos uma carta muito singular chamada Regal Peryton. É uma carta mágica do elemento terra que tem a habilidade Flying. As cores do personagem são belíssimas em tons de azul, lilás na maior parte de seu corpo, e tom marrom nos delicados cifres.

É uma carta com velocidade 5, ou seja, muito rápida! Por ser uma carta mágica, é uma excelente estratégia utilizá-la em uma batalha quando o baralho escolhido for o do elemento terra. Mas, além de suas utilidades no jogo, quais as histórias giram em torno do personagem dessa carta? É isso que descobriremos nesse post!

A primeira aparição desse ser fascinante aconteceu no livro ‘’Manual de zoologia fantástica’’ do escritor argentino Jorge Luís Borges, lançado em 1957. Os Perytons são descritos como criaturas híbridas com cabeça, corpo e patas de veado enquanto que seu corpo e asas tem a estrutura de uma águia. Suas cores são azul e verde, e a sua a sombra, é a de um homem.

Segundo Borges, a existência desse animal híbrido foi citada por um rabino marroquino em um manuscrito do século dezesseis que foi destruído durante bombardeiro a Dresden na segunda guerra mundial. Borges afirma que o conteúdo do manuscrito fazia uma referência a uma obra perdida de um escritor grego que descrevia textos de oráculos que estavam guardados da Biblioteca de Alexandria antes de ser destruida. É muita história, isso já da pra perceber pelo o quanto esse documento parece ter percorrido. Mas, o conteúdo a cerca dos Perythons nesse suposto manuscrito, é no mínimo interessante. Abaixo irei citar algumas informações que estariam presentes no papel:

• Que esses animais voavam em bandos e foram vistos a grande altitude sobre as Colunas de Hércules (Estreito de Gibraltar).

• Que são inimigos mortais da humanidade e embora armas não os afetem, esse ser não pode matar mais que um só homem.

• Os soldados romanos que acompanharam Cipião na conquista de Cartago mão fracassaram por pouco, pois houve um momento que uma formação de perytons desceu sobre os navios, matando e mutilando muitos homens

• Os perytons viveram originalmente em Atlântida.

Sem dúvida, são características muito interessantes e que nos fazem refletir a cerca desse impressionante animal mitológico. É claro que tudo indica que a história do manuscrito não passa de uma criação do próprio autor que o cita em seu livro ‘’Manual de zoologia fantástica’’. Mas, sendo ficção ou não, nos estimula a imaginar um cenário em que esses seres fantásticos realmente existiram e como deveria ser a vida dos seres humanos nessa época, visto que eles também eram conhecidos por ter cede de sangue e carne humana.

Agora, me digam; gostaram dessa história?
