Something some people don't understand about fiction is that, you're reading the characters/author's opinions, not a textbook for how to navigate life... Characters Should and Will do things that you don't agree with, and you're not supposed to change your views or hate them for it. You should judge, understand where they come from, and judge again.
Good stories don't teach you to act in a certain "correct" way... They teach you to reconsider how you act!
I guess this simple fact is above some people's capacity to understand...

Exactly! I had a conversation like this some time ago and I tried to explain this but it felt like I was talking to myself. You don’t judge characters from real life perspective, it’s the writers world and not yours.
I think you should judge characters, but not judge them in a way you judge a friend, (I hate you for this behavior,) but in terms of if the behavior is okay in their circumstances.
