RE: Gods Unchained - Community Contest, why it is flawed

I agree with a lot of the things you wrote. I would just point out that whale doesn't always mean skilled player. The top players may even belong to a team and be playing with borrowed cards. I'm also not sold on the idea of the event being done to appease the whales - many of them will get nothing from this.

Of course, whales do not mean the same thing as a good player. This is why most games tend to lean into the "pay to win" side of things. As that is the easiest way to give whales an advantage. In a game like this, it is a bit different tho. Here the advantage would be more that they have access to all the cards as fast as possible.
It is perfectly fine to not agree with me. I just saying that these type of things are usually done with that in mind. And the original structure of paying only 20 players seemed to lean into that.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Always good to get input from others. It is the easiest way to find out if youre up the wrong creek without a paddle, or if youre actually on to something. =)
I think the first iteration of the contest leaned more into design inexperience and lack of foresight.
If the idea is to regularly distribute more tokens to good players, the distribution will always be limited to a % of the base. I question why release this now with such limited tools still in place and mixing it up with Ranked. It's the kind of thing that asks for a separate game mode, no? I don't get the rush, considering the time they always take to get something out.
Might be they are seeing a slight decline in the player base and want to try and bring people back. But just guessing.
