My Business Chapter

Mrs. Owo has been someone who has a passion for business. She has worked so hard to bring her business into the realm of a huge one. She started from scratch, and each time she bought goods, she wouldn’t be bothered if the items she had bought were sellable in her domain. She would buy those items, hoping to sell them in due time. There is no item she does not have in her shop.

Getting closer to her was my aspiration, as she had grown so much, from small scale to large scale. She has this habit of not taking nonsense when it comes to debtors. She would sell things on credit by observing the one who wanted to buy on credit. Although she does collect her money at the due time, that is, at the agreed-upon time, and when you fail to pay her, your house will never contain you. I can give a true description of a disciplinarian.

I had always sat in her shop watching the way she behaved and the way she sold her items on credit to those who wanted to buy on credit. One day, I had to ask her, “How do you deal with those who buy on credit without paying you back in return?”
She was so bold as to tell me the method she always uses, and this alone made me fall for her lovingly. Her ways of dealing and her ways of building up her business are exceptional. Taking her shoes was my calling. I had tried so many times to be like her that I knew vividly that I had truly adapted to her lifestyle.

When I got married, I was just not interested in what my husband was asking me to do; instead, my mind was fully on what I had seen this woman do. Her character and her ways of dealing with customers were just ringing within me. I knew that no matter what, I would one day behave like her, no matter the situation. She was patient enough to build up her business without being in a rush. She had once told me that being in a rush can always or sometimes fail in all ways, but being patient can bring good ideas into one's life. I had tried to always remember all she had taught me and all she had been doing whenever I was with her. Working so hard to meet this target has been my calling, and I never asked for failure because she had never failed in her days, and even up till this moment, she kept on excelling without dropping an inch backwards. Her smile alone can bring every customer to her shop, and her methods of dealing as well as playing with people will also draw them closer to her, no matter the situation.

After two years of staying with my husband, I had gathered enough facts on how the business is being run in that very location. I had asked questions and had gotten my answers. So, when he set me up, it was so small, but by applying the method I derived from this woman, I was able to manage the small start to a bigger start. I emulated her and acted just like she had always acted. I managed to take a leaf out of her book, which made my business a new leaf and a new turn.

The way I deal with my customers today is as a result of what I derived from her. This alone I can never forget in the history of my life.

When I got home, she asked me, “What are you doing right now?” It was a good question to ask. I did not hesitate to answer her keenly, as she knew I had been out of town after my marriage. I told her that I had taken a page out of her book and started what she had taught me. She was so excited. She asked me the same question I had asked her years back, “How do you deal with your customers?” I was able to tell her that I deal with them the same way she had taught me when I had always visited her. She smiled and said, “Truly, you have taken a leaf out of my book, and I'm proud of you.”

My business took a good shape in terms of continual flourishing, and I kept having a good number of dedicated customers. I took after her tactics, and I’m happy to be just like her in all ways.

This story reminds me of how my mom grew her business. She knew how to sell her goods and how to collect her money from her debtors.
If not for the fact that I'm not cut out for business, mehn, I think I would have made a good businesswoman.

Thanks for sharing this beautiful story, it really is a beautiful one.

It's good you already knew the kind of business you wanted to do, and you already had someone to learn from, not everyone has that luxury

Business is not for the weak. I also admire her strategies as you have described and I am glad you emulated her way and got benefits from it. She will indeed be happy to hear about your progress. I wish you many more success
