book Review: The Enemy By Charlie Higson

I have been trying hard, but still find it tough to read novels nowadays. Unlike before, I always pick up one from either the library or from my friends. This time, I hardly read. This one I laid my hands on is a book I found interesting, and a book one can just read at one's convenience. Although it's horror, and as you all know, anything horror must be scary.

I don't know what the writer saw before choosing to write this book. Maybe he has imagined something like this before now, or something else.

The Synopsis

All the adults have been wiped out by a viral infection, but just a few are left in London. I can say the whole world, according to the book. The funniest aspect of it was that children over the age of 14 years who got infected by the virus became Zombies. The fact is that anyone below that age becomes an easy means for the infected. All over London, they seek refuge in strongholds to survive against the undead.
Some kids who formed a group made a Waitrose and were sent out as scouts to search for food and supplies. Their second aim was to bring back any survivor that happened to come their way in the food search. Some who survived in Holloway were the Morrisons. Even the Waitroses lost two of their children. They lost the two at different locations, one at their base, while the other to scavengers.

Even those on the run got hunted down. One of the kids showed up and told them facts about another children's camp in another area. Arran, their leader, took the children under his care to a safe place that they later discovered was a palace.

Arran, who was taking the kids to a safe place, died on their way, which made leadership change hands immediately, as they had to carry on just to be safe.
Maxie carried on with the tasks of taking care of the kids as he became the new leader of the group. David had a different plan to reunite the kids, being the leader of the palace, by using the undead royalties.

The idea was a solid one, but it was still adjusted in the long run.

My Reaction

I believed that one just needed to read this book at leisure time, although a little scary, but interesting.
This book's author did a great job of aligning the kids with their leaders. It would take a long time to conclude this book if I were the one writing it, but somehow the author managed to bring it to a conclusion.

I can rate this book 8/10, as there is no write-up without a flop. This one still stood a chance to gain my heart.

I will search for more of this author's books to read. It's not easy cooking up a write-up about zombies, but he managed to narrow his way to bring up something great in the heart of the readers.
